Pergola and Decked out

The deck and pergola were completed the summer after our second child was born. It was a busy summer! We stained all the pergola beams, support beams, railings and the deck boards, which kept us all very busy. 

We went with regular deck boards for this project, as composite materials were really pricey. After living with the deck for 6 years now, we have had to sand and re stain it every 2 years. The deck also gets really hot under foot in the summer months, but is helped by the sail canopy we put up. We later added some amazing planted boxes to finish the bottom of the deck.
