Living Room Ideas

During the last few weeks here in Michigan it has been down right freezing! This turn to negative temperatures has gotten me thinking a lot about curling up next to the fire and nrot venturing outside until spring. I have been thinking of fun ways to dress up the living room of the new house. I have always wanted a coastal feeling to the space, casual feeling and airy. That being said, we have been living in apartments for 4 years now and the thought of another white wall makes me cringe.

I have been thinking more about having the walls a nice tan/sand color because I want pops of coral red throughout the room. We are going to be having wood floors throughout a lot of the main level of the house but I would love to have an area rug to warm your bare feet on near the fireplace.

Coral colored accents and even pieces of coral would be a nice addition throughout the room. I love these coral embellished pillows from Pottery Barn!

I really like the simplicity of this couch and chaise lounge. Something in a durable woven fabric in an off white or tan would fit in nicely.

We are having a fireplace in the center of the west wall of the house in the living room. That will be flanked by book shelves on either side and will have a nice spot above the mantle for the television. I would love to put a big black and white art print above the fireplace but I'm too practical, and there really isn't another place for a TV.

House Plans are in

This has been the most exciting part of the house planning. We have been sketching and dreaming of the layout we want in our home for years. Before we got married we were planning to build our house, we just weren't sure how soon we would be able to accomplish this giant goal! We have been saving for a few years and we have been very proud of our progress.

We were anticipating seeing our blueprints for a few weeks after meeting with the architect. We couldn't wait to see how they turned out. I can't tell you how many drafts we created on graph paper! It was so rewarding to see them done and we would like to share them with you. So here they are...

Tree planting

Late in the fall of 2010 we were given 2 tress to plant on our property. We were given one oak tree and one maple. Our lot is severely lacking in trees since it is 2 acres of old farm land it pretty much only has tall weeds and some over grown bushes. So we drove the van on the lot and made two holes for the trees and then we were off to pick them up! It was a fun experience together and it was nice to add some foliage to the lot. We don't know yet if they have both survived the winter (and the deer), but we are hopeful that they both will and we can enjoy them for many years to come.

Kitchen Inspiration

We are going for a classic looking kitchen complete with white cabinets and subway tile. The center island will be a darker wood to contrast the white cabinets in the majority of the kitchen. We are thinking a large farmhouse sink with a view out the window to the east. We are at this point undecided as to colors to go with this stark white kitchen (open to suggestions!)
